    El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy Has Died

    The El Paso Municipal Police Officers' Association extends its deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, colleagues and friends of Deputy Peter Herrera #4928 of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.  Deputy Herrera died on Sunday, March 24, 2019, as a result of injuries he sustained after being shot multiple times after conducting a traffic stop on March 22.

    H.R 141 – The Social Security Fairness Act of 2019 was introduced on January 3, 2019 and is one of our legislative top priorities. This bill would repeal the Social Security Windfall Elimination provision which unfairly diminishes retirement benefits for officers who were not permitted to participate in the social system by their municipal employers.
    Texas Officer Fatally Shot While Responding To Burglar Alarm

    An officer was fatally shot while responding to a burglar alarm at a Texas home. According to local news station CBS7, Officer Nathan Heidelberg was shot by the homeowner who believed his house was being broken into.

    FBI Reports Overall Crime Declined In First Half Of 2018

    The FBI released their Preliminary Semiannual Crime Statistics for 2018 on Monday, reporting an overall crime decline during the first half of last year. The report shows a decline in both violent crime and property crime in 2018 when compared to stats from the first half of 2017. Nearly all offenses in the violent category declined. Robbery decreased by 12.

Sergeant Williams served with the El Paso Police Department for 30+ years, from February 1950 until his retirement in September 1980.
    El Paso police officers read to kids at Barnes and Noble

    Some El Paso police officers took time off from their busy schedule to read to children at Barnes and Noble Saturday. Dozens of kids showed up to hear officers read and they were joined by McGruff the crime dog. The purpose of the event was to help build relationships with children, so if they ever need help, they'll feel comfortable enough approaching an officer.

    Police say the man shot by El Paso Police officers Monday morning has died. He has been identified as 25-year-old Louis Jose Burrus. Burrus was in critical condition after he was shot just before 5:00 a.m. Monday on the 2900 block of Trawood Drive, near George Dieter Drive.

    El Paso police are investigating an officer-involved shooting.  It happened on Trawood Drive near George Dieter Drive Monday morning.  Darrel Petry, spokesman for the El Paso Police Department said they received several calls about shots fired in a neighborhood nearby.   He said they pursued a man who they believed was involved in the incident.

    For the third straight year, more officers died by suicide than in the line of duty, WGN 9 reports. According to Blue H.E.L.P., a nonprofit run by active and retired police officers, at least 159 officers took their own lives in 2018, the same number of suicides tracked in 2017 and 19 more than in 2016.

    A suspect was taken to University Medical Center after an officer-involved shooting in South-Central El Paso Wednesday night, police said. Authorities said two officers fired at a man after a family disturbance was reported just after 8 p.m. on the 500 block of Huerta Street. Police said the man charged at the officers with a knife.

    Las Animas County Sergeant Matt Moreno was fatally injured on the evening of Wednesday, December 12, 2018 in an on-duty traffic accident. The accident happened as Sgt. Moreno and two other deputies were responding to a domestic violence in progress call. While headed to the scene two patrol cars were involved in an accident with a civilian vehicle traveling the opposite direction.
